The prototype Formula GT was first flown in April 2001. The Formula GT Program consists of all existing GT-specific engineeering drawings, data and tooling. The airframe components used to build the prototype Formula GT were pulled from production tooling - high temp molds in which prepreg materials are cured at high temperature, under a vacuum. Fairingsand some non-structural components are laid up using epoxy resin / room temperature techniques. The Formula GT prototype aircraft and Program are offered at a discounted package price of $155,000. The Program, less the prototype aircraft, is priced at $55,000. The "GT" was featured on the cover of the May 2003 issue of EAA's flagship publication "Sport Aviation". Equipped with a 260 horsepower IO-540 Lycoming engine, the GT cruises at 190 KTAS.
